About

My name is Steve Schlange and yes, I am a white Caucasian male intent on blogging and world domination. I am hoping both will be therapeutic.

I am married to an amazing girl named Brooke and have two great little girls. I love being a husband and father and am currently (and forever) trying to beat down my self-centeredness in order to do better at both.

I work at BitSculptor, a web development company owned by my brother and based in Lake County, CA. My actual workspace (don’t call it an office) is upstairs in my house. We are a small shop (5 guys) focused on custom web site development. I am the Multimedia Director which is a title we made up. In reality I do all the search engine marketing, site designs and early site development (CSS and the like). Recently, I have been delving into Flash ActionScript and getting really anal about web standards.

My non-work related interests include motorcycles (2003 Yamaha R6), playing guitar (Taylor 314CE limited), photography, working with students and sports of any kind. The sports I am currently enjoying are Ultimate and basketball.

Update: Kind of sad to see that I apparently have very few, as in one single, interest left in my life. I am a sad little man.

Where Did The Name Cheesepole Come From?

The short answer is – GoDaddy. The longer version is that I have a nice two-word domain name (simplesweet.com) and was going to use it for the blog but then decided it was too valuable for something that isn’t going to make me any money. So, I went to GoDaddy and checked the domain cheesesticks.com to see if that was taken (I love John Macy’s cheese sticks available at Trader Joe’s and other fine retailers nationwide) and of course it was but they offered up some other cheese based domains which were available and when my eye fell on Cheesepole I chuckled (inside only) and decided I liked it. Someday I plan on making a Cheesepole out of Sharp Tillamook Cheese. If I had to guess what the purpose of a Cheesepole is I would say it must be to catch mice in hard to reach places where you can’t fit your hand or the barrel of a rifle.

    Hi Steve,

i felt finding your blog whilst just surfing must be a little more than coincidence so i’m shouting you out from sunny Barbados in the Caribbean!

I like your honesty for the most part (see hints of myself in your self deprecation….troubling) .

Anyways would love it if you could check out http://www.cwgministries.org and gimme some feedback on your impressions.

Yes, i too am a disciple of Christ….I would say though that I’m past disillusionment with the way things are in contemporary Christianity, primarily because i no longer regard that stuff as reality but a counterfeit of the reality of life in Christ.

I’ve come to call it in the words of a friend of mine ‘churchianity.’

We all lead busy lives today and i wanna get outta the rat-race. I’m inviting others to join me inswimming against the tide and would love to reach out through the net in an even bigger way to do that .

Would love to explore the scope for any kind of business colllaboration/s with you.

Here are some facts about me.

I’m a Christian, married, work as a Financial Advisor for an insurance company here in Barbados.

the wife and i worship at a conservative Wesleyan Church (i’ve been around a while…hse church pentecostal, five-fold, independent….you get the idea. when we met this is where she was going so i decided to not push the issue of her uprooting and joining me on the fringe, (do wonder sometimes if i did the right thing but hey….we live and hopefully we learn right.
My hobbies are singing songwriting, worship leading. I’m a BIG reggae music fan…Bob Marley, Junior Gong, Sean Paul and a host of others….i just love the stuff.

anyways thats it for now drop me a few lines sometime.

Am I webtarded or can I just not figure out how to leave comments? I click the ‘leave comment’ button and then the page shows just that comment with no thingermabob at the bottom for comments. DANG MAN!

I’ve blogrolled you! Apparently your blog is one of the fastest growing on WordPress, according to my dashboard.

Aaaagh. CSS guru – you are not allowed to use that word in reference to me. There are two reasons:

    1. As far as I know I made it up. I own the rights.
    2. As the holder of an esteemed Bible College Degree which, come to find out, serves no purpose in the real world, I am a bit self-conscious about my web work. You are going to make me really self-conscious throwing around such a powerful word.

And just between you an me, I feel for bob@aol.com.

My cat looks alot like yours. Oliver is 26 pounds. How much does your cat weigh? I looked up Oliver’s origin and he seems to be abyssinian. That may be spelled wrong. Which is from Egypt. Oliver has white paws. I can send you a pic of Oliver if you send me your email address. Thanks for putting your cat on the news. Have a great weekend.
    Sincerely,
    Donna
